Welcome
to Premier School of Building (PSB) est. 1999
We specialise in providing short
courses by distance
learning to the construction industry. The
courses are mainly
single subject, competence based,
for mature students and are best suited for studying
at home or in the students workplace. The courses
are designed to assist students in the areas of study
irrespective of meeting institutional demands. Each
module or subject is expected to be completed in approx
three months but this will depend on the student's
previous knowledge.
To meet students requests combined courses have been developed incorporating four of more subjects
an example being the 'Diploma in Site Management' which
comprises of four subjects of the student's choice which
must include a management module.
Company profile
Premier School of Building is a correspondence school
established in 1999 offering short courses by
distance learning for most
managerial positions within the construction industry.
A member of the British Institute for Learning & Development (BILD)
and also of the Association of British Correspondence
Colleges (ABCC) the school was established when it
took over the construction courses for ' The Institute
of Clerks of Works of GB ' from 'Construction Tutorials'.
Since incorporating the Ellis School of Building material
the number of courses offered and the statues of the
new school have altered considerably. Premier School
of Building has students in over thirty countries
from Germany to Australia and Fiji. We also offer
in-house training to clients in the UK Middle-East
and Far-East, organising and managing in-house training
programmes to suit both employers and employees needs
within the industry.
Our Mission
At Premier School of Building we believe that for many
mature students especially those who are already
at work or do not have access to a local college,
distance learning courses are the best and most
economical method of studying toward their chosen
professional qualifications. That is why we at Premier
School of Building have developed a range of single
and combined courses which will assist students
to attain their desired level of competence, which
they can demonstrate within their professional life
regardless of their opinions of professional institutions.
Premier School
of Building and Charitable Organisations
It is the policy of Premier School of Building to work
with and assist charitable organisations with development
projects both in the UK and overseas. Premier School
of Building will activly offer assistance to charities
and other organisations with regards to self development
especially within 3rd world countries.
Approved Prior Learning (APL) &
the Student Information Portfolio (SPI)
Many students enrol for a single subject course and
on completion re-enrol for a further module or several
modules after they have experienced the advantages of
distance learning.
Students who wish to study a combined subject diploma
will be able to claim APL or receive exemptions if they
have previously obtained awards.
All students who study with the school are required
to develop their own Student Information Portfolio as
they progress through their studies.
Assessment Criteria
These are no examinations incorporated within the schools
assessment criteria for any subject. All assessment
is based upon students work submitted for comments and
grading. Grades of A, B, C, D and E are awarded ranging
from excellent work to re-submit, but this grade is
very seldom needed.
Accreditation of PSB courses and Diploma's
PSB specialise in Short courses and over the past eighteen
months five new courses have been written by chartered
surveyors to meet industries needs. It is not the policy
of PSB to seek accreditation from any professional
institute as we consider that due to the wide range
of our courses none of the existing bodies are capable
of undertaking such a task.
We do however find that past and also current students
approach their selected institutions and are granted
a variety of membership grades based upon their qualifications
and experience and as one student told us ' I got there
in the end'
On completion of all courses a Premier School of
Building Diploma is awarded based upon work submitted
on a continual assessment basis, there are no PSB
examinations.
Course Material
Generally consisting of a manual and text book and
in the case of Construction Technology 1
several drawings to assist newcomers to the Construction
Industry are included. PSB considers that the course
content is self contained and the purchasing of additional
books is unnecessary. The Architectural and Building
Drawing module and the Draftsmanship module require
the students to have access to a drawing board and instuments
or alternatively CAD may be used.
Entrance Requirements
There are no pre-entrance requirements for any of the
Introduction modules marked * but students are advised
that pre-requisites modules are recommended for intermediate
(**) and advanced (***) modules.
Premier School of Building is NOT involved in obtaining Entrance Visa's to the UK for students as all the
courses offered are by distance learning and can be undertaken in the students own country.
Submission of Lesson Answers
Generally most students post their scripts to the assignment
handling office but overseas students are encouraged
to send their scripts in as an attachment to an email.
PSB courses are not internet based and online tuition
is not included except with the Maths
Revision course .
